Phenotypic Variability and Differences in the Drought Response of Norway Spruce Pendula and Pyramidalis Half-Sib Families

In a changing climate, forest managers need to select productive and climate-change-resilient tree species provenances. Therefore, assessing the growth response of provenances growing in field trials climate provides useful information for identifying more appropriate provenance or variety. To determine genetic gain through selection most resilient families decipher role crown forms Norway spruces (Picea abies (L.) Karst.), we used 24 with classical (pyramidalis) narrow (pendula) from eight provenances, 25-year-old comparative trial. The annual wood characteristics (ring width early- latewood), resistance (expressed by latewood proportion (LWP)), two spruce were investigated. No significant differences between found regarding ring characteristics. However, three pendula Stâna de Vale I exhibited highest LWP could be included future strategy, respective trait having also high heritability.
